Instructions: Wash and peel the cucumbers. Cut into very thin slices, sprinkle lightly with salt and let stand for 15 minutes. Pour off all the liquid. Mix together the water, vinegar, sugar and pepper; pour over the cucumbers and place in the refrigerator for one hour. Drain or serve with a slotted spoon. We always thinly slice some onions into this as well. Vidalias or Walla Walla onions are the best.
