Instructions: Sieve together the flour sugar salt and baking powder.
Stir in the flavouring of your choice. Beat the egg add milk and oil. Stir into dry ingredients until evenly moistened. Fill muffin tins lined with cake cases. Bake on second set of runners from top of the roasting oven. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until risen and browned. Serve warm with butter. This is a truly american recipe. Vary the flavourings according to what is in the store cupboard. They are good for breakfast made with wholemeal flour and served with butter and honey.
