Cream shortening; gradually add sugars, beating well at medium speed of an electric mixer. Add egg, and beat well. Combine flour, soda, and cream of tartar; gradually add dry ingredients to creamed mixture, mixing well. Add vanilla, and mix well. Shape dough into 1-inch balls; roll in powdered sugar. Place on lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake at 275 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. Cool on wire racks. Yield: 4 dozen. Email this Recipe:
