Instructions: Prepare apples. Place in a well-greased 8 - 9 inch pie pan. Combine 1/4 cup sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over apples. Cover tightly with aluminum foil. Bake in hot oven 400 degrees, for 20 minutes.
Cream butter and gradually add 1/2 cup sugar, blending well. Add vanilla and egg, beat well. Sift flour and baking powder together and blend into the creamed mixture. Spread evenly over apples in pan. Bake for 20 - 25 minutes in a 400 degree oven until golden brown. Serve warm or cold, topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. This recipe came from the very first Pillsbury Bake Off Booklet, then called the Pillsbury Grand National Cook Off. Then the booklets cost .25 cents. Ill put in a few more recipes.
