CAKE ----------------
1/4 cup Shortening
1 cup Sugar
1 x Egg
1/4 tsp Salt
1 tsp Cinnamon
1 tsp Nutmeg
1 tsp Baking soda
1 cup Flour
2 tbl Hot water
1 tsp Vanilla
1/2 cup Chopped nuts
1/2 cup Apples, pared and cubed
----------------- RUM SAUCE ----------------
1/2 cup Butter
3/4 cup Brown sugar
1/4 cup Cream
Instructions:
Instructions: Cake - Cream together shortening and sugar. Add remaining cake ingredients through apples in order listed. Mix well. Pour into greased, 9-inch round cake pan or pie plate. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-60 minutes.

Rum Sauce - Melt butter. Add brown sugar and boil 1 minute. Add cream and boil a few more seconds. Remove from heat and stir in rum extract or rum.

Serve cake with warm rum sauce.
