Instructions: Beat together: sugar, shortening, eggs, applesauce, raisins and nuts. Add the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and cloves, which have been sifted together. Add the water and mix well.

SAUCE:
Mix and boil until clear.

Serve with whipped cream or sauce.
