Instructions: 1. Peel the pears, cut in half and place in an ovenproof pie dish with 1/2 the sugar, the water and butter. Bake at 350 F until pears are tender.
2. Separate eggs, add milk and 1/2 remaining sugar to egg yolks and pour over pears. Continue baking for 20 to 30 minutes until custard is set. 3. Beat egg whites until stiff, add remaining sugar and continue beating until stiff. Spoon meringue on top of pear custard, and continue to bake until top to lightly brown. 4. Serve hot with cream.
