Instructions: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Cream brown sugar, sugar, and shortening together until smooth. Mix into the creamed mixture the salt, egg, vanilla, flour, cream of tartar, and baking soda. Roll into a ball then roll in sugar. Place on a ungreased cookie sheet 1" apart and bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
