1 cup butter or margarine room temperature
1/2 cup milk room temperature
2 tsp vanilla extract,
or other desired flavoring
Instructions:
Instructions: Combine all ingredients in large mixing bowl and mix at slow speed until smooth. If stiffer icing is needed or the weather is very warm, add a little extra sugar.

This recipe makes enough to fill and cover a 2-layer 9-inch cake.

This recipe yields 5 cups.

Chocolate Buttercream: For a simple chocolate buttercream thats good for piping, add 1/2 cup of unsweetened cocoa and 2 tablespoons of cold, strong coffee to the basic buttercream recipe.
