2 lb very lean beef stew meat - (to 2 1/2 lbs)
2 tbl bacon drippings or shortening
2 lrg onions diced
5 lrg potatoes cut into eighths
4 lrg carrots - (to 5) cut in 2" pieces
Salt to taste
Freshly-ground black pepper to taste
Garlic flakes or garlic salt (optional)
Diced celery (optional)
Instructions:
Instructions: Crock Pot: Brown stew meat in bacon drippings or shortening. Add diced onions and cook until browned. Add meat and onions, vegetables, seasonings, soup and a soup can of water to the crock. Cook on LOW all day - HIGH half a day. Add more water as needed.

Stove Top: Brown stew meat in bacon drippings or shortening. Add diced onions and cook until browned. Add vegetables and seasonings. Add soup and a soup can of water. Simmer (at 250 degrees) for about 3 hours, or until meat and vegetables are tender. Add more water as needed.

Serve with a hearty bread like french or Italian.
