Instructions: Combine apples, brown sugar, water and lemon juice in a saucepan; cover and cook slowly until apples are just tender, about 7 or 8 minutes; blend flour and granulated sugar; add to apples and cook, uncovered, stirring, until mixture thickens, about 2 minutes; remove from heat; add vanilla, salt and butter; cool; continue with 2-crust 9-inch pie; bake 40-45 minutes at 425 .
