Ingredients:

1/2 tbl olive oil
30 gm butter
2 x onions, medium
1/4 cup celery
1/2 clv garlic, crushed
1/2 kg beef, minced
1/2 cup red wine
220 gm whole peeled tomatoes
1/4 lt water
1/2 x beef stock cube
1/4 tsp basil, oregano, thyme
1/2 x bayleaf
1 tbl tomato paste
1/10 tsp cumin, ground
Instructions:
Instructions: Dice onions and celery.

Heat oil and butter in large pan, add onions, celery and garlic, cook until onions are transparent. Add meat, mash well.

Stir meat until lightly browned, add wine, undrained tomatoes, water, stock cube, tomato paste and herbs and spices. Stir until sauce boils and thickens, reduce heat, simmer gently uncovered for 1 - 1 1/2 hours or until thick, stirring occasionally.

Variations:
Add mushrooms, diced capsicum, bacon or salami to sauce with onions and garlic.

Serve with spaghetti or use as base sauce for lasagne.
