Instructions: Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Stir in corn meal. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Combine egg and milk; add to corn meal mixture, stirring until well blended. Insert wooden skewer into end of each frank. Spread franks evenly with batter. Fry in deep hot oil (375 F.) until brown, 4 to 5 minutes. Serve with catsup and mustard.
