Instructions: Step 2: In a roasting pan, combine oats, flaked wheat, wheat germ, and almonds. Pour honey mixture over and toss until well mixed and the grains are coated.
Step 3: Roast grain mixture, stirring occasionally, for 30 minutes or until the grains are toasted. Remove from oven and allow to cool, stirring occasionally. Step 4: Reduce oven temperature to 250 F. Halve and core apples and cut halves into very thin slices. Arrange the slices on 2 baking sheets in a single layer. Step 5: Cook the apple slices in the oven, turning them once, about 15 to 20 minutes or until partly dried out. Allow slices to cool slightly, then chop coarsely. Step 6: In a bowl, combine grain mixture with apples, raisins, and sunflower seeds. When cooled, store, refrigerated, in an airtight container for up to 1 month. NOTE: Toast oats to make granola or cook with milk for a nutritious hot cereal. Stir in fruit for vitamin C, nuts for vitamin E. Rolled oats are sold as "old-fashioned" oatmeal and cook in 5 minutes. The longer-cooking steel-cut oats are sold as Irish oatmeal. Serves 10. Preparation Time: 30 minutes. Cooking Time: 50 to 55 minutes. Email this Recipe:
