Ingredients:
Amount Ingredient
1 med sized head cabbage
2 cup hot water
1 tsp salt
3 x strips bacon, minced and cooked
1/2 tsp pepper
3 med to large apples (I use Jonathan or Gala or another that holds up well)
1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
3 tbl vinegar (I use red wine vinegar)
2 tbl butter (I also add a little bacon grease the skillet)
Instructions:
Instructions: Shred cabbage, and put it in a lightly greased casserole dish. Add hot water, 1 tsp of salt, bacon, 1/2 tsp pepper, and mix all together.

Cover and bake @375 for 20 minutes. Pare and core apples. Remove casserole from oven, make indentations in cabbage mixture; place apples in the holes. Fill the center of apples with brown sugar, vinegar, and sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper. Dot with butter and cover. Return to oven for another 30 minutes, and serve.

Serves
4 to 6.

I found this really good recipe in a box of cookbooks my grandma gave me. One book was titled Forgotten Recipes. Cabbage stuffed with apples is a forgotten recipe from 1941
