Instructions: Heat oven to 375F. Grease baking sheets. Sift together flour, baking soda and salt; set aside. In large mixing bowl, cream butter and sguar. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually alternately add sifted ingredients to creamed mixture with milk. Add vanilla. With elec mixer, beat until well combined, scraping bowl occasionally with rubber spatula. By hand, stir in chocolate pieces. Drop by heaping tablespoonfuls onto prepared baking sheets, spacing cookies about 2 apart.
If desired, press each cookie into a neat circle with moistened fork. Bake on middle oven rack 12-14 mins or until edges of cookies are lightly browned. Cool thoroughly on wire racks. Store in covered container. These soft, cakelike cookies are delightful with afternoon tea or hot chocolate. To make chocolate chip pieces, first chill chocolate bars. Working with only 1 bar at a time, break off pieces of chocolate into dry bowl of your food processor. With metal blade, pulsate machine until chocolate gets to size you want; dont overprocess.
