Instructions: Combine first 3 ingredients; stir well. Spoon into an 8 inch square baking dish. Combine 1 cup flour, baking powder and salt; cut in shortening with pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Sprinkle milk evenly over flour mixture; stir with a fork until all ingredients are moistened. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls over cherries. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 45 minutes or until crust is browned. Serve with ice cream. 8 servings.
