Instructions: Combine and melt caramels with 1/3 cup evaporated milk. Keep warm. Combine cake mix, melted butter and remaining 1/3 cup evaporated milk. Beat at medium speed 2 minutes. Spread 1/2 of batter in 9 x 13 pan. Bake 350 degrees for 6 minutes. Remove from oven. Cool 2 minutes. Spread caramel mixture over baked layer. Sprinkle with chocolate chips. In remaining batter stir in nuts. Drop by spoonfuls over all. Bake at 350 degrees for 18 minutes.
NOTES : Besides being delicious, I include these bars in honor of their contributor, Bonny Mayer. I worked in surgery with Bonny for many years. Indirectly I owe my coordinator of ENT surgeries position to her because she oriented me to those cases along with general cases. We have lost touch, but she is still inside of me with memories-of fun, relaxed days shopping at Long Grove and the sad days I went with her to the vet to have her pet rabbits put to sleep.
