1 whl chicken - (abt 3 1/2 lbs)
5 qt water
1/2 cup soy sauce - (to 1/3 cup)
12 x dried shiitake mushrooms whole
2 slc fresh ginger 1/4" thick
1 x napa cabbage head cut 1 1/2" squares
1 pkt fish balls see * Note

Instructions: * Note: Fish balls resemble gefilte fish - except theyre not as salty. Theyre made with ground white fish, come in a package of about 15 and cost about $2. You can find them in the frozen foods bin.

Combine chicken, water, soy sauce, shiitakes and ginger in a stock pot. Bring to a boil. Lower heat to medium-low and simmer for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Add salt to taste. Add cabbage and fish balls and simmer for 15 more minutes. Serve.
