Instructions: For the Filling: Combine cake crumbs, brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl and mix well. Set aside.
For the Powdered Sugar Glaze: Mix powdered sugar with hot water until smooth. Stir in vanilla. For the Rolls: Dissolve yeast cakes in lukewarm milk. Combine sugar, salt, shortening and egg in mixing bowl and mix at low speed 1 minute. Add milk mixture and mix 1 minute. Add cake and bread flours and nutmeg and mix only enough for flour to be incorporated, not more than 5 minutes. Roll out to 18- by 12-inch rectangle on floured surface. Brush with butter and sprinkle with cake crumb filling. Starting from 18-inch side, roll up jellyroll fashion. Slice into 1-inch slices. Place on greased baking sheets, cut-side down, and pat out fairly flat. Cover and let rise until doubled. Bake at 400 degrees until golden, about 15 minutes. When partially cooled, brush with powdered sugar glaze. This recipe yields 18 rolls. Email this Recipe:
