Instructions: Combine sugar, coffee, and 2 cups of boiling water. Stir until all is dissolved (continue heating, if necessary). Pour into 1/2 gal bottle; e.g., empty liquor bottle. Cut up vanilla bean and add to bottle.

Pour in bourbon and swirl to mix. Age for two months, it continues to improve with time.

P.S. I usually follow the third one and use vodka for alcohol. Once I used grain alcohol (in smaller quantity, of course). I used bourbon once; it seemed to give it a sweeter smoother taste. If you add liquor to hot water, some of the alcohol will evaporate. Wait until it cools. Try leaving some age for 2 years or longer. I recently enjoyed some that was over 8 years old...very, very nice.
