Liquid from cherries
Water
3/4 cup Sugar, (depends on how sweet you like things) (up to 1)
1 x Cinnamon stick
3/4 cup Dry red wine
1 tbl Arrowroot
2 tbl Cold water

Combine liquid from cherries plus water to equal 3 cups, wine, sugar, and cinnamon in large pot. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Add cherries and simmer 10 more minutes. Remove cinnamon.
