Instructions: Sift first 4 ingredients into a bowl. Mix in corn meal. Blend egg, milk and shortening until mixed. Add dry ingredients and beat until smooth.

Turn into an 8 x 8-inch pan. Bake at 400 degrees about 20 minutes.
