Instructions: Combine 5 cups cranberries, water and sugar in a heavy large saucepan.

Bring to a boil, stirring frequently to dissolve sugar. Cool completely.

Mix in vodka. Cover cranberry mixture and let stand 2 days at room temperature.

Strain cranberry mixture through a sieve into a clean container. Cover and refrigerate.

Fill glasses with crushed ice, pour cranberry vodka over and serve.

A batch of this vodka makes a nice holiday gift- in the past we have bottled it into clear glass bottles with attached stoppers, which I bought at Williams-Sonoma, We have also served this in small glasses over ice with appetizers on Thanksgiving.
