Instructions: Combine tomatoes, butter, sugar and salt in medium saucepan; heat over medium heat. Stir in soda. Combine flour and milk; blend well and add to hot tomato mixture. Cook, stirring constantly till mixture is thick and bubbly. Break toasted bread in small pieces and add to hot tomato mixture.Serve as a vegetable.

Tooties Notes: Mother used to make large batches of this when the last of the tomatoes came off the vines. We called it Tomato Pudding. We floated buttered toast and cheese on top. she would also, make a large batch and put a crust on top and bake in the oven for a tomato pie. Lordy, Lordy how I miss those days.
