Yield:
1 pastie.
Ingredients:
Amount Ingredient
3 cup flour
1 cup suet, ground fine
1/4 cup lard
6 x -7 Tablespoons cold water
Filling
1 lb ground round beef very very lean.
or 1 pound diced or cubed steak. Once in a great
while I have used porterhouse steak, but only as
a special treat.
1/2 lb diced or cubed pork chop, make sure
there are no bones.
1 tsp salt
1 x or 2 potatoes (diced)
1 x turnip or 1 rutabaga (diced)
1 x onion (diced)
butter for greasing baking sheet
Instructions:
Instructions: To Make Crust: Blend lard into flour. Add suet, then cold water.

Roll dough out. 1 pie shell makes 1 pastie.

Filling: Add half inch layer of finely diced potatoes seasoned with salt and pepper. Then a thin layer of sliced turnips, then a very fine layer of chopped onion, and diced carrots. Cover this with part of the beef and pork mixture, season again, adding parsley. Fold dough over, crimp edges, it will look like a calzone. Slit top, put on a greased cookie sheet, and bake at 400 degrees F for 1 hour.

Most people like to use catsup to use on their pasties. Some prefer gravy. Whatever you decide to use on your pasties, these make a great meal.
