Instructions: Cream butter & sugar. Add vanilla & egg. Beat. Sift dry ingredients and add alternately with milk to butter mixture. Stir in dates & nuts using two tablespoons of the flour to coat the dates. Drop by rounded teaspoonsful onto greased baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes.

Topping: Brown butter add sugar and enough hot water to make spreading easy. Frost cookies when cooled.
