Instructions: Put butter, sugar, egg, milk, lemon rind and flour into a basin. Beat with a wooden spoon for a minute or so. Mix in sultanas then put into a greased casserole dish. Put sugar, golden syrup, water and butter into a saucepan and stir over a medium heat to dissolve the sugar, then boil for 2-3 minutes. Add lemon juice, then pour syrup over the cake mixture. Bake in a moderate oven for 1 hour. Serve hot or cold with plain boiled custard.
