Ingredients:
Amount Ingredient
2 cup brown sugar
2 tbl shortening
2 tbl butter
1 cup milk
1 tsp baking soda
2 tsp baking powder ( rounding tsp )
2 tsp vanilla
flour to make soft dough FILLING
1 cup dates or raisins ground
1/2 cup white sugar
4 tbl flour
Instructions:
Instructions: Preheat oven to 400 degrees

Dissolve the 1 tsp soda in the 1 cup of milk, then add all of cookie ingredients, using enough flour to make a soft dough.

Cook the filling ingredients, cool.

Roll out cookie dough, and use cookie cutters to cut into shape and size desired.

Place on cookie sheet, put a dab of filling mixture in the middle of dough, and top with another piece that has been cut...use fork and "seal" around cookie.......bake at 400 degrees till slightly browned....Enjoy ! !
