Instructions: Preheat oven to 400 F. Put bacon drippings in 10" iron skillet and put in oven while mixing batter. Sift dry ingredients together and add milk and egg. Beat until thoroughly blended. Remove skillet from oven and pour batter into hot grease. Bake for 30 minutes.
NOTE: The hot grease and the iron skillet together gives a crusty bottom on the cornbread. Also, if you use a pot holder on top of bread and turn it over then return it to the hot skillet upside down, it will stay crusty even after it cools. Email this Recipe:
