3/4 cup shortening
2 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 cup molasses
1 x egg
Instructions:
Instructions: Heat oven to 375 degrees F. Grease 15- x 10 inch jelly roll pan. In large saucepan, melt shortening; cool 5 minutes. Add remaining ingredients except 2 tablespoons sugar; mix well. Press in bottom of prepared pan. Sprinkle with remaining sugar. Bake at 375 degrees F. for 10 to 12 minutes. Do not over-bake.

Let stand 5 minutes; cut into bars. Cool completely.

Yield: about 48 bars
