Instructions: Sift together dry ingredients into a medium mixing bowl. Cut in Crisco using a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. Add dried fruit and 2/3 cup milk, and stir just until all is moistened and there are no dry crumbs on the bottom or sides of the bowl. Add 1 - 2 Tbsp milk and stir until it all comes together in a mass.
Dump out onto a lightly floured counter. Knead 10 times. Roll out 3/4 inch and cut with 1 inch biscuit cutter. Place on parchment lined baking sheet and sprinkle with sugar if desired. Heat oven to 450. Let rest 10 minutes while the oven is heating up. Let scones bake 10 -12 minutes or until tops are golden. For the dried fruit I usually use a combination of dried cranberries, or craisins as they are called, and white raisins. I have used dried blueberries with good success. You could use this recipe but add cranberries and maybe some orange flavoring and some orange zest to it. Email this Recipe:
