Instructions: In a large saucepan, combine the lentils and water and bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Reduce the heat to medium and cook for about 25 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the bulgur, salt, and pepper and cook until the lentils are tender, 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. (Add a little hot water if necessary.)
In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook, stirring, until the onion slivers are browned, 7-10 minutes. Stir the onions into the pot of lentils and bulgur. Serve the grains with pita bread and a tossed salad. NOTES : When cooked together, lentils and bulgur are a nutritious duo.
