Instructions: Wash and soak peas overnight. Cook peas in same water until tender. Wash and chop mushrooms. Drain sauerkraut, reserving 1 cup liquid. Combine pepper, kraut and mushrooms in enough water to cover and cook about 1 1/4 hours.
Fry onion and pork (or bacon) until lightly browned. Blend in flour. Stir until mixture is smooth. Mix with sauerkraut and peas. Put mixture into a buttered baking dish and bake, covered, in 325iF oven for 20 minutes. Mary Says: This is always served at the traditional Polish Christmas Eve dinner called "Wigilia". NOTES : Grandmas notes: I dont use the kraut juice. Also, I use only a quarter pound margarine or bacon. Half pound is too greasy. The last paragraph are my remarks. Email this Recipe:
