Instructions: Crumble sausage into a large skillet. Add the onion and garlic; saute over med-high heat until sausage is browned. Drain off fat and set aside.
Combine 1/2 cup flour, whole wheat flour, cornmeal, sugar, salt, and yeast. Stir in the water, butter and the remaining flour into mixture to form dough. Cover and let rest in a warm place for 10 minutes. Grease a 10-inch spring-form pan. Stir down the dough. With greased fingers, press about 2/3 of the dough into the bottom of the prepared pan. Add cheese and peppers to sausage mixture and spoon mixture into the center of the dough. Spread the filling towards the edge of the pan, leaving a 1/2-inch border of dough. Drop remaining dough, by tablespoonfuls, over the filling. Cover the pan and set aside to rise until dough has doubled. Heat oven to 400 degrees. Brush top of dough with egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake loaf for 25 to 30 minutes, or until it pulls away from edge of pan. Cool in pan for 5 minutes. With a sharp knife, loosen edges of bread in pan; remove side of pan. Cut bread into wedges and serve warm. Email this Recipe:
