Instructions: Trim anise, cut into thin lengthwise slices and set aside. Brown garlic in olive oil and butter. Remove garlic and add anise. Cover and simmer 5-10 minutes or until slightly tender. Add remaining ingredients and simmer another 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally. Anise should still be a bit crunchy.
