1 lb ground beef
1 x onion chopped
1 pkt mixed frozen vegetables - (16 oz)
(carrots, beans, corn, and peas)
3 x celery ribs including tops chopped
1 can beef broth - (14 1/2 oz)
(or 3 beef bouillon cubes)
1 x green pepper chopped
1 env dry onion soup mix
1 can tomato sauce - (8 oz)
1/2 cup barley
1/2 tsp freshly-ground black pepper
2 tbl fresh oregano chopped
(or 1/2 tspn dried oregano)
2 tbl fresh basil chopped
(or 1/2 tspn dried basil)
2 sprg fresh thyme
(or 1/2 tspn dried thyme)
1/2 tsp paprika
1 x bay leaf
1 tbl seasoned salt
1 tbl soy sauce
1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley
(or 2 tbspns dried parsley)
1 pkt small alphabet-shaped pasta - (7 oz)
Instructions:
Instructions: Brown the ground beef in a frying pan. Drain off the fat. You can reduce fat content even further by placing the beef in a colander and running hot water over it. Put the beef and all ingredients except the alphabet pasta into the crockpot. Add water to within 1 inch of the top of the crockpot. Cook on HIGH for 8 hours.

About 15 minutes before serving, add the alphabet pasta to the crockpot and continue cooking until pasta is done. Serve with fresh, soft rolls.

Comments: This is for a 5-quart crockpot. Cut down the proportions if you have a smaller crockpot.
