Instructions: Beat butter, sugar, eggs together for 5 minutes (not with an electric mixer, as recipe is for 1907); then add the water, flour sifted with the cream of tartar and baking soda. Beat another five minutes. Pour into jellyroll pan and have batter 1/2-inch thick. Bake quickly. (youll need to look at a modern-day cookbook for temp & baking time).
Run hot water on a clean towel; Wring cloth out of hot water and turn cake into this towel. Spread with jelly and roll in confectioners sugar. Roll in a dry towel and use the next day. NOTES : Email this Recipe:
