Instructions: Make dough by first placing flour in large bowl. With pastry blender, cut in margarine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add egg yolks and sour cream and stir until combined. Turn out on a lightly floured surface and knead until dough is smooth and can be shaped into a ball. If too sticky, knead in more flour. Dough can be refrigerated until ready to use.
Make filling by combining nuts, granulated sugar, milk and almond extract in medium bowl. Blend well. Preheat oven to 400 degrees and grease cookie sheets. To shape Kifli, roll out a quarter of the dough at a time on lightly floured surface. Measure 16 x 12 inches and 1/8 inch thick. With pastry wheel, cut into 2-inch squares. Place a generous 1/2 teaspoon filling in center of each square, then bring 2 opposite corners overlapping over filling. Pinch edges together to seal. Place on cookie sheets and brush lightly with egg. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and roll in confectioners sugar. Cool on wire rack. Wauseon, Ohio Email this Recipe:
