1 cup shortening
1 stk margarine
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup flour
1 tsp lemon extract
1 x lemon, juice of
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tbl hot water
4 x eggs
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup warm water
Instructions:
Instructions: Cream shortening, margarine, and 2 1/2 cups sugar until all sugar grains disappear. Add eggs, one at a time; beat well after each addition. Add baking soda to hot water in spoon; mix. Add flour and liquids alternately to batter, beginning and ending with flour. Bake in an angel food tube cake pan (be sure not to grease the pan). Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Remove from pan immediately when done. Mix well the 1/2 cup sugar and 1 cup warm water and the juice and rind of 1 large lemon.

Pour over the hot cake. Cool completely before cutting, covering, or storing.
