Instructions: Combine pie filling mix, 1/2 cup sugar, and 1/4 cup water in saucepan. Blend in egg, add remaining water. Bring to a full boil over medium heat stirring constantly. Cool 5 minutes, stirring twice. Measure 1 cup filling, cover and cool completely. Pour remaining filling into pie shell. Prepare dream whip with milk and vanilla as directed on envelope, adding 2 tablespoons sugar. Blend 1 1/3 cups into cooled filling. Spoon over filling in pie shell. Chill thoroughly. Garnish pie with remaining dream whip.
NOTES : This is one of Aunt Virgys specialties along with mock chicken legs. Aunt Virgy is a wonderful dinner guest. In the "old days" when we barbequed with the Weber grill, we would serve her hamburgers that resembled charcoal briquettes and she would ask for the recipe. She would describe her method of preparing dinner as "throwing something together". She is a great listener and is a special friend to my mother. I am blessed to have her as my godmother.
