Instructions: Combine first 5 ingredients in a medium bowl; cut in butter and shortening with pastry blender until mixture is crumbly.
Combine cottage cheese and egg, beating well. Add mixture to flour mixture, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened. Stir in ham. Turn dough out onto a floured surface; knead 4 or 5 times. Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness; cut with a 1 3/4-inch biscuit cutter. Place on greased baking sheets. Brush with melted butter. Bake at 425 for 12 minutes or until golden.
