Instructions: Brown ham in a Dutch oven or large pan. Remove. Layer one third of each ingredient 1-6 in order given, until all are used up. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. Pour broth over to cover completely. Cover tightly and cook on medium low heat for 45 minutes, checking the liquid level. If it gets to under about a quart, add hot water to equal a quart. At 45 minutes add the half and half and the butter. Cook long enough to heat thoroughly. Dont let it boil.
