Instructions: 1. Grease a 9x15" pan. Coat with flour.
2. In large bowl put shortening, sugar, and eggs. Beat well until well blended. 3. Add vanilla to milk. 4. Combine flour, baking powder and salt in a small bowl. 5. Beginning and ending with flour, add alternately with milk mixing well after each addition. 6. Pour into pan, bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 60 minutes. Note: If using electric mixer, blend first 4 ingredients well. Add milk then flour mixture, blend well. *This recipe is double the original one because I had to feed 12 people. We used this cake for strawberry shortcake and English Trifle served with sauces, decorated for special occasions, sliced in 1/2" slices and sandwiched with peanut butter for school lunches, cut in large cubes for mocha cakes and used as base for ice cream sundaes.
