Instructions: Melt the shortening and saute the onion until translucent. Sprinkle in the flour, incorporating quickly with a wooden spatula. Cook until just barely golden brown. Add chili, garlic, and chicken broth, and simmer for 10 minutes or until the sauce begins to thicken. Add salt to taste. Serve over enchiladas, eggs, hash browns, chicken, or anything else.
