Instructions: Stir together the flour, celery salt and pepper. Dredge the meat portions, and press the coating into the meat with your hands. Heat the oil in a skillet over medium/high heat and brown the steaks. Remove the meat to a roasting pan with a lid. In the same skillet, saute the onion rings and mushrooms until they are soft. Lay this over top of the steaks. Combine the tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce and garlic powder and then pour the sauce over all in the roasting pan. Cover the pan and bake at 350 for 1 hour 15 minutes, or until the meat is tender. Transfer the meat and vegetables to a serving platter and keep warm. Combine the cornstach and water and stir into the sauce. Bring to a boil while stirring until the sauce thickens slightly.ESpoon the sauce over the meat and vegetables and serve.
NOTES : This is a dish my Mother made, it is sort of a cross beween Salisbury Steak and a dish she called Swiss Steak. I often use round steak when I make it, but go ahead and use ground beef patties if that is what you like, the method is the same but the baking time will be less. I often add sliced sweet red or green pepper to this dish. Email this Recipe:
