Instructions: Prepare cake as directed on package for a three-layer cake.
To make filling/frosting: Put egg, sugar, evaporated milk, vanilla, salt and butter in a 2-quart saucepan. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened, about 8-10 minutes. Do not boil.
