Instructions: In a large saucepan bring sugar, water, burgundy, cloves, cinnamon, ginger, lemon to the boil. Simmer 5 minutes.
Peel the pears and place in liquid, cover with a teatowel to keep submeged. Simmer very gently for about 25 minutes until pears are soft but not broken. Test with a wooden or metal skewer. Gently lift pears out and refigerate. Reduce cooking liquid until syrupy, remove from heat, pour over pears. Cover and chill. Serve cold with whipped cream. Email this Recipe:
