Instructions: Pour enough boiling water over raisins to cover them, let stand 10 min. Beat shortening and sugar till creamy. Add eggs and beat till fluffy. Drain raisins, reserving 1/2 c. liquid. Dissolve soda in this liquid. Sift together flour, salt & spices; add to creamed mixture alternately with raisin liquid. Blend well. Stir in raisins and oats. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet. Bake 12 - 15 min at 350F.
