1/2 cup shortening
2 x Eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp salt 2 1/2 c flour 9sifted 2 to 3 times)
1 tsp soda
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup red food coloring
2 tbl cocoa
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp vinegar
Cream shortening and sugar till fluffy.
Instructions:
Instructions: Put cocoa and red coloring in cup and make paste.

Add to shortening mixture.

Add salt and vanilla to buttermilk, adding milk and flour alternately to shortening mixture, mixing well after each addition.

Put vinegar and soda in cup and mix. Add to mixture.

Bake in two 9" pans at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
